5 out of 5 stars Good Buy!   September 4, 2010
AgentOneArm
I have had this device for several months, no errors, no hiccups, nothing.
Works great and how can you go wrong with the amount of storage space. Bought 2 WD drives before this one, a 1 TB drive and a 500 GB drive, both starting having issues a couple of months after purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Two Baskets For My Eggs   September 3, 2010

After much deliberation about how to store my professional images for future reference, I chose to go with CDs and DVDs. This system works, but it is not very easy to recover and restore the images to my C drive when I need them. With the addition of my recently purchased 1TB drive, I can also have my images just a mouse click away.

1 out of 5 stars Warning OEM Hard Drive   August 30, 2010

I can't even review the actual drive because what I recieved was not the nicely packaged hard drive with all the accessories but a loose hard drive in a plain brown box, which I didn't even bother opening. After a little digging I realized it was an OEM hard drive. I have no problem ordering it like this(I would have just ordered the cable for [...] bucks), but when the actual website shows the full product and i get this..... Well Amazon customer service told me to work with Hitachi to get the missing components. Why should I have to work with the manufacturer when it was amazons mistake... Anyway its being returned and I will order from Tiger Direct where they are clear about what I am getting...... Shame on you amazon.com...

4 out of 5 stars Great for Performance computers, not so much for HTPC (OOB anyways)   August 29, 2010

Fantastic drive for the price, cheaper here than other retailers. One small problem - The noise. Its fine if you have a performance computer, but not so much if you have a HTPC. Now this doesnt bug me much in my HTPC. And I don't really feel like running the tool mentioned in other reviews (I forget what its called).

1tb is more than enough for me. If I want more, I'll probably buy another one of these. Its actually pretty speedy for me coming from my laptop with an SSD.

I can't tell much about overall reliability yet, but I'll be sure to update this review if anything changes.

3 out of 5 stars Very Unhappy With Amazon   August 25, 2010

This review is not of the Hitachi drive or its installation, but of how Amazon advertised the drive, and how it was actually delivered.
I recently purchased what I thought were two of the hard drives pictured in the image that you must have seen if you are reading this review. The image shows the brightly colored retail package for the drive, which normally contains the drive, screws to mount it, and an SATA data cable. What I just received were two plain brown OEM boxes with nothing inside but the drives. When I ordered the drives, nowhere did it say that these were OEM drives, even in the many reviews that I read. I did notice that some of the people who purchased these drives also purchased 18 inch SATA data cables with them. I thought that was strange, but now I understand why. Somehow they must have found out that these are OEM drives before they purchased them. I have purchased a lot of things from Amazon over the years, and I have been happy with what I received in almost all cases, but this time I am very unhappy with what I received. I will continue to buy from Amazon, with the hope that this type of thing will not happen again, but I will be wary of them for a while, until they prove themselves to me again.
