5 out of 5 stars Nifty CO monitor   March 20, 2010
M. Newman (NJ)
I bought this to monitor CO in my home. It came quickly and had free shipping. It came with the batteries it needed it seems pretty sturdy. The instructions are straightforward and easy to understand. I just popped open the case, put the batteries in and set it in my hallway table with it's little stand (like a picture frame). It looks nice and I like that it has a display so you know how much CO there is...not simply an alarm. I look at it every time I walk by and it gives me peace of mind.

4 out of 5 stars Works fine, needs better mounting option   March 19, 2010
Just a guy (Westchester, NY)
This is probably the best value for an CO detector that actually has a digital read out for the PPM of CO gas detected. Having the readout is important so you can differentiate between a low alarm (maybe <100 ppm) from baking and something more serious (>400 ppm). The unit I received in March 2010 is the one with the squarish buttons - not the newer round button unit that is also sold through this same amazon page.

I am very handy around the house - I redid my own bathroom down to the studs. This was not difficult to mount, but it could have been much easier. It uses two keyholes on the back. There is no template provided and - unlike most smoke detectors - the mounting plate does not detach from the unit. Thus, there is much measuring and leveling to do it right. Ours is wall mounted next to the thermostat in the hall - away from the kitchen.

So far, no false alarms and the max reading/backlight button is a nice feature.

Uses 3 AA batteries - included - Duracell - nice.

4 out of 5 stars I kidde you not   February 25, 2010

It is and does exactly what it's supposed to and every house must have one in NY by law.

5 out of 5 stars I'm happy with it   February 17, 2010
Lisa BBBmom (Dallas, TX USA)
After recently learning that CO detectors need to be replaced after 5 years, I went on the hunt to find new ones. The Kidde KN-COPP-B got great reviews at a very reasonable price so I ordered 2 of them. They arrived quickly, were easy to set up and are in great working condition. I'm very happy with this purchase.

4 out of 5 stars CO Monitoring In Garage   January 22, 2010

I was going to use a forced air kerosene heater to warmup the garage for winter car restoration projects. The Kidde Alarm along with simple thermometer first allowed me to take CO level & temperature data to get a good sense of safe operating limits on cold days. After 2 hrs, CO levels rose to the 50 to 70ppm levels after a 25 to 50F warmup...wise time to shutdown! Also was able to check on any potential CO bleed into the attached house (none)as well as CO decay rate when heater turned off & temperature drops. All in all it worked very well & measurements one day to the next were reproducible/consistant. The only shortcoming not mentioned in Amazon ad, but well covered in Kidde brochure was the 30ppm minimum reading level inherent with the unit. I would have paid 10 to 20% more for unit that goes 10ppm or less.....but probably not realistic availability. Also used to spot check oil furnace & wood burning fireplace....all zeros. All in all it worked great & I just leave in furnace room when not actually heating garage.
